We love DUMBO more every day - and now our 'hood has some new bragging rights! The Travel + Leisure 2012 Design Awards have named Jane's Carousel (in the Brooklyn Bridge Park) as Best Public Space! The Travel + Leisure Design Awards are judged by a distinguished panel of judges (an architect, multidisciplinary designer, fashion designer, interior designer, public artist, and a groundbreaking non-profit co-founder) and awarded to locations around the globe - to be selected as a Best Public Space by such an amazing group is quite an achievement!
What Travel + Leisure has to say about Jane's Carousel: "In a completely unexpected pairing, a richly detailed carousel (1922) and a see-through minimalist shed (2011) jointly occupy a dramatic waterfront site in the shadow of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. The carousel is open to the public, and after sunset, the pavilion’s acrylic walls are illuminated, creating a light show visible across the river and from the bridges above."
As one one of DUMBO's most beloved landmarks, we were very excited to see Jane's Carousel move to it's new home. We even helped move one of the horses from the original location to the gorgeous and dramatic waterfront location of the glass pavilion in Brooklyn Bridge Park were the Carousel is now open to the public.
Half Pint Citizens is just around the corner from the park, and the Carousel. Our idea of a perfect afternoon? A ride on Jane's Carousel, some shopping in our DUMBO boutique, and lunch at one of the fantastic restaurants around the 'hood (or, if the weather's warm enough - which it will be, soon enough - a picnic in the park!).
